Perspective Pauses

Hey friends!

Thank you for praying for us here in Konomala. We are so needy for God’s loving grace, guidance, and power as we fight the spiritual battles happening in and around us. It’s often a bit of a staring contest with the computer screen when it comes time to update you all about what’s happening in our personal and collective lives within the church here.

The broken record keeps skipping on the same song day after day:
– God is faithfully doing things in all of us.
– We praise Him in getting to experience the victories together as we choose to abide with Him in humility and obedience.
– And of course we all too often choose to live independently of our Father and experience the death that sin produces.

We find ourselves needing to take a perspective-pause every day to think back on these last years with a humble thankfulness for the amazing things that God’s Spirit has done in people as they have chosen to respond to the truth and walk in Him. In truth, we need those pauses so often because the day to day struggles can feel pretty defeating and discouraging.

But it’s in all of that challenge that God has so much more to teach us. We know that; we just don’t really like the whole dying-to-self thing. But we’re staying in the fight to rest in Him and believe it anyways.

Keep praying for us all in the church. There are some big things that we’re looking to God for in the life of the church, but the spiritual battles are pressing hard on us all. Some are trending into growth and faithfulness, and some are trending into some old fleshly patterns. A few others are living full on self-centered, fleshly lives … which is presenting a lot of challenges but also clarity as to the life that God is offering for us to live in.

The Family

This last month we got a chance to take a break as a family in Australia. It was a great change of pace and a really enjoyable time together. We ate good food, played at lots of parks, and enjoyed some amazing weather. There were lots of things to be thankful for in it, but the big highlight was getting to spend a week with my (Seth’s) parents who made the long trek over. There were lots of laughs and happy memories with Grampa & Gramma.

Keep praying for us as we are getting back into the normal rhythm of life in Konomala.
We are still needing to grow and adjust in how we live life as a family here:
… in how to be faithful as spouses, parents, friends, elders.
… in how to work, play, serve, rest.
There’s more, but I’ll save you from the lists.

Keep Praying

Pray that our friends within the church continue to humble themselves, respond to truth, and walk with God.

Pray that more would choose God’s way of living instead of blindly living in the flesh. We have so many friends who are believers but are just happy with where they’re at in life…it’s pretty inconvenient when the truth & the Spirit want to bring change to life.

Pray that we faithfully love each other as husband & wife.
Pray that we faithfully love, discipline, teach, & train our girls.
Pray that we faithfully love Hodgdons as our friends & co-laborers.
Pray that we faithfully love our friends in the church.
Pray that we faithfully love our neighbors within this community.

  1. Glad you all got a change of pace and some refreshing time with Steve and Sharon! It looked like the girls really enjoyed themselves, and it seemed like an important getaway for you and Kaitlyn—bumps and all. I hope it brought some rest and perspective for the next leg of your church planting journey.
Praying for you all! Love C&C

  2. I think that I am too old to get on the right page to answer your email update, so I will answer it here. I hope that won’t mess with things on your end.

My sister and her husband lived in Australia for 20 years. They kept inviting us to visit, but with 5 children and limited funds, we never were able to make the trip. Now I wish that we would have been able to visit them first in Canberra and later in Sydney. You are being blessed.

Your girls make me smile. Knowing that they are away from the stress that is going on in the US also gives me hope for them. We have to keep our eyes off of the mess and fix them on Christ and his Word to us through those God Inspired writers.

Thank you for a peek into your lives.
