It Could Be More Helpful

As we help people learn to live life with Jesus, there are little moments along the way that become keystone memories in it all. Sometimes those moments are big and obvious to recognize…other times, not as much.

One of the small kind of moments happened a few days ago. Us guys were in the middle of a multiple hour conversation with two of our closest friends who are the core faithful men of the church. One of the guys has been faithfully speaking truth to his extended family where he lives. We’ve walked the hour and a half trip a couple times to hang out with everyone and chat through things, but there’s a chance that we might start going more regularly.

With that potential in mind, we started talking about how the four of us would like to go about helping this family gain more clarity and understanding around the gospel. Not just the good news of their salvation into God’s family, but also the good news of all that’s available to them today as they walk with Jesus.

Both of the guys recounted some of the things they’ve recognized as they have been helping people over these last couple of years. We talked about all that needs to be established for someone to understand who God is, who they are, and how they can live life with Him. Then as we considered the scope of scripture in how God reveals the truth, one of the guys came up with an idea. He remembered how we had initially walked him and others through scripture, and he wondered if an extra emphasis on some other passages might actually bring more clarity for people.

Simple. Genuine. Principled.
We talked for a while longer, then after the guys left, we reflected on how the whole conversation had gone. The guys hadn’t just defaulted to what had been done before. They hadn’t just deferred to our opinion. They weren’t silent about how some things could be more helpful than how we had done them in the past.

They had clarity about what we are aiming at as we offer truth to others. They considered the Biblical principles that needed to be be established for people to know God and live with Him. And best of all, their thoughts weren’t coming from rote memory, but from a heart-reality that they themselves are growing in and living out.

Keep Praying

Pray that we would fight well for Jesus’ life & perspective as we live as a family, raise kids, and love the people in our life.

Pray that all of us in the church would keep growing in our conviction and intentionality to consider truth, live in it, and speak it to each other.

Pray that we would have consistent opportunities to teach and equip people in the church as well as others in the community.

Pray for this month’s transition as Hodgdons go back to America for the rest of the year.
